About Us / Council / Branch Council Members |This page last updated 16.06.06 |

As an association our organisation aims to represent the views of its members when developing policy or reponding to consultation documents. Clearly, with over 28,000 members it is impossible to consult everybody and so, in common with similar bodies, the Magistrates' Association forms policy through the Council and its standing committees. The Council comprises representatives from each of the 60 local branches throughout England and Wales. Representatives are appointed for a triennium (a three year period) and meetings are held three times each year in March, July and November. Under its constitution the Council is required to elect a Board of Trustees, the strategic management board for the Magistrates' Association, and may appoint any other committees to consider issues of relevance to the magistracy.
