Aim

  • To represent members’ views.

The Association is uniquely placed to present the views and needs of magistrates to influence government policy, by not only responding to government policy, but also by raising issues and ensuring their discussion in appropriate quarters. This is achieved by representation at meetings and events with a number of organisations within the criminal justice system. There are at any one time many working parties and groups examining specific issues in the criminal justice system.

The Association is usually asked to nominate a representative, usually an Honorary Officer or a relevant committee member to attend meetings and to feed in views and concerns. Staff members at the secretariat also link up with other officers in these organisations for information exchange and to ensure good communication channels.

In addition regular contact is maintained with a wide range of media, including national newspapers, radio and TV, local media, trade magazines, legal publications, website links etc, to facilitate and ensure that the Association’s viewpoint is aired as frequently as possible when relevant and appropriate.
