Director of Finance and Resources (full time, permanent)
£53,000 Closing date 12 January 2022

The Magistrates' Association is recruiting a new director of finance and resources. 

This new role will help drive our business change programme – taking the lead in developing and then implementing our financial strategy, developing the performance management framework for the organisation, and making sure that our resources are effectively deployed. You will also deputise for the CEO when needed.

This is a period of change and renewal for the Association. We’ve a new staff structure and senior management team, and the board has recently appointed a new hon. treasurer with significant experience of membership organisations

Early in the role you will be shaping a number of related strategies:

  • 3-5-year financial strategy – developing and then putting in place the medium-term plan
  • investment strategy – setting out the best use of our investments including our substantial reserves and our office building in Vauxhall, which we own
  • performance management – developing our KPI dashboard
  • you will also review and improve the operations of our finance and HR functions

This is a very varied role, with lots of opportunity to both use your current skills and learn and develop further. You’ll be part of the senior management team, working collectively to provide management and leadership to the organisation, and developing our membership recruitment and retention strategy. And you’ll be joining the organisation at an exciting time of change and renewal – so you’ll play a leading part in shaping those plans.

Media and Communications Officer (full-time, permanent)
£32,600    Closing date: 17 January 2022 (9am)


Are you a communications professional with a track record of working effectively in/with the media and of implementing insight-driven strategies, plans or campaigns? If so, we want to hear from you!

We've recently embarked on period of significant change and modernisation, and improved communications is at the heart of this. The Media and Communications Officer will be integral to delivering our new marketing and communications strategy. A typical day might see you using your flair for writing and strong interpersonal skills to:

  • Respond to media calls for background information, quotes, or interviews
  • Draft op eds and press releases for the chair and CEO
  • Write and get articles placed in external publications
  • Develop engaging content for our social media channels
  • Write and upload copy to our website
  • Coordinate contributions to and send out our e-newsletter.

It's an exciting and varied role, with lots of room for you to develop new skills and to help shape the direction of our internal and external communications.

Training, learning and development officer (full-time, permanent)
£32,600    Closing date: 5pm 17 January 2022

The MA is recruiting a training, learning and development officer.  This role gives the successful applicant an opportunity to help shape the training and development of magistrates, working alongside our experienced and knowledgeable members and volunteers. In any day, you might be involved in:

  • Working with our expert Training, Learning and Development Committee to develop learning and development materials for our members
  • Coordinating our planned new Learning and Development Hub, a learning management system (LMS) which will host all our learning and development materials on our website from early next year
  • Supporting our branches in the delivery of their learning and development programmes for their members
  • Working in partnership with government bodies to comment on training proposals for magistrates.

 

It’s a very varied role, and as mentioned above, you’ll be joining us just as we begin the implementation of our LMS – our Learning and Development Hub. This is a major new investment for the Association, agreed by our Board of Trustees, as we seek to better present and curate our learning and development materials for our members. You’ll be taking a lead part in designing and implementing this exciting new member benefit.
