HMI Probation post-release supervision of prisoners

The MA has received a letter from HMI Probation thanking our members for their valuable contribution to their most recent thematic inspection. Last December, the MA circulated a survey in ENEWS on behalf of HMI Probation which looked at the post-release supervision for prisoners sentenced to under 12 months imprisonment. Extending rehabilitation services to offenders released from short prison sentences was one of the main reforms under the Transforming Rehabilitation programme, which redesigned the delivery of probation services as well as introducing post-sentence supervision for offences committed after 1 February 2015. HMI Probation's inspection of work undertaken in the community by prisoners who fall under this criteria has now concluded and the responses from MA members collected through the survey will provide a valuable contribution to the final report, enabling a comprehensive picture to be presented. The final report is due to be published by the end of May 2019 and the MA will keep its members informed of its findings.
