The MA is delighted to announce that Tom Franklin has been appointed as our new chief executive.

Tom is currently chief executive of Young Citizens, an education charity who many of you may be familiar with through our collaborative work on the magistrate mock trial competitions. Tom has been chief executive at Young Citizens since 2016 and has twenty years of experience as a chief executive including at Think Global, the Ramblers Association and Living Streets. He also has governance experience as a trustee, has undertaken ministerial appointments and volunteered as a local councillor and a befriender supporting people in prison.

Tom describes himself as a ‘special ops’ chief executive who has gained a breadth of skills and experience that will be invaluable to the MA. He will be joining us in late May.

Tom says: “I’m really excited to be joining the MA. Through the mock trial competitions, I’ve met many magistrates over the last few years, and their dedication to the work of the magistracy inspired me to apply for this role. I’m looking forward to helping the MA speak up for, and support, magistrates, and promote the unique place of the magistracy within our justice system.”
