Domestic abuse

The Magistrates' Association (MA) has worked with academics from the University of Durham and the University of Sunderland to carry out research on the training needs of magistrates in relation to domestic abuse.

The research involved MA members completing a survey about their views on specialist domestic abuse courts, as well as their perceptions of risk and potential harm in different relationships. There were also questions relating to training that magistrates had attended, although it should be noted new training has been rolled out on the issue since the research was carried out.

The MA welcomed the opportunity to carry out this vital research project. We are very grateful for all the work taken forward by the researchers in analysing the data and producing this report.

Please note, that the recommendations arose directly from the research, and do not necessarily represent MA agreed policy.
