The MA's former National Chairman Malcolm Richardson has been awarded an OBE for services to the administration of justice.
Current MA Chairman John Bache comments:
'My sincere congratulations to my immediate predecessor, Malcolm Richardson, on the award of an OBE. Malcolm worked tremendously hard over very many years and was completely committed to the magistracy in general and the MA in particular. This honour is richly deserved.'
Malcolm was National Chairman of the MA between 2015 and 2017, having previously served as Deputy Chairman, a member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Family Court Committee. He was the founder magistrate member of the Family Justice Council and represented the magistracy on a number of national bodies, including the Leveson Review into Efficiency in Criminal Proceedings.
Commenting on the award, Malcolm said:
'I am delighted and very proud to have received this honour. Serving as a magistrate has been hugely rewarding and I am very pleased that my contribution has been recognised in this way.
'But this honour is also a recognition of the contribution that all magistrates make to their local communities and to the justice system and I would like to thank my colleagues on the bench and at the Magistrates Association for the support that they have given me in nearly thirty years as a magistrate.’
Congratulations also to MA members Judith Bernstein who received an OBE for public service, and Jayne Clemence, Jill Parker and Rosamund Reece, who have received MBEs for their services to the magistracy.
