MA liaison

David Gauke MP - Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice

The MA's National Chairman John Bache and Chief Executive Jon Collins met with Rt Hon David Gauke MP, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, on Wednesday 6 June.

This meeting was a chance to discuss a range of issues related to the magistracy and the broader justice system, including the need to recruit more magistrates, the need for more training and support for the magistracy, sentencer confidence in community sentences, the importance of acting on the recommendations of the Lammy Review, and the need to ensure that magistrates are actively engaged in the design of future reforms to the justice system.

The meeting was a welcome opportunity to ensure that the Lord Chancellor is aware of the MA's breadth and depth of expertise and to identify priorities for future collaborative work.
