Treatment of young adults in the criminal justice system

Government response

This Government has set out its response to the Justice Committee’s Seventh Report of Session 2016-17: The treatment of young adults in the criminal justice system, which was published on 26 October 2016. The Justice Committee’s report focused on the distinct needs of adults up to the age of 25 and made wide-ranging recommendations. In its response, the Government outlined its commitment to this vulnerable group, but did not accept the Committee’s recommendation for the Ministry of Justice to produce a specific young adult strategy.

T2A (Transition to Adulthood) have commented on the Government response.
