Justice Ministers have told MPs that they want to ban perpetrators of domestic abuse from directly cross-examining their victims within the family court, as matter of urgency. The MA has long called for the same protections to be afforded in the family court as in the criminal court. Sir Oliver Heald QC MP, Minister of State, has said that ministers are prepared to introduce primary legislation to this end. No official timescale has been identified, but it was noted that this would depend on how long it took the Ministry of Justice to complete the necessary ’fast-track’ work, which is now underway.
